Word du Jour

Main Entry:    Scoo-tchie
Pronunciation:   /skooo-tchee/
Function: noun
Etymology:  Post Modern Eastern American, most likely derived from a combination of the two words, Scratchy and Coochy-Coo.
Date:  20th Century
1. An action of endearment, primarily rendered to a canine companion, involving an      enthusiastic massage of key furry points, such as the ruff of the neck, behind the ears, above  the tail, etc.  Scootchie most often  includes involuntary facial contortions such as eye  squinting and  a peculair gritting of the front teeth, by the human particpant .  The  propensity for this behavior is thought to be an  inherited trait, although the gene coding  for Scootchie has yet to be identified. Scootchie is  generally well tolerated, if not  extremely appreciated by the recipient canine.   Because of the vigorous nature of the scootchie "massage", it is not suitable for very small  breeds and/or other species such as CATS, reptiles or fish, although this has  been attempted  unsucessfully.

The following photograph is an example of a situation likely to involve some serious Scootchie:

Desert Hound, part deux

Greetings Fellow Earthlings!

Today is going to be a blue blog because, well, Most Excellant Female Alpha Companion, likes blue! And green, but that will have to be for another day.

Anyhow, Her Most Excellant can't figure out what I should call her, or "the Others" in this blog. (Shades of "Lost" you TV junkies?) (More on this in a future blog....) So for now, her Most Excellant will do, which incidentally shortens further to "ME".....

So! To finish up on the overnight to Borrego Springs, CA, I highly recommend La Casa Del Zorro resort, a dog friendly establishment. Anyplace that both welcomes us four footed types and has a cool pool rates in my book. When it comes to swimming, no dainty wading for me, no sireee! I am a Canine Cannonballer. There is actually a "sport" if you will, based on dogs who do this. It's called Dock Dogs and they are WAY cool. www.dockdogs.com Def check this out. These crazy dogs hurl themselves into ponds, lakes, whatev, from great heights and the length of their jump is measured. Perhaps in another life I could have done this! If they are ever diving in your neck of the woods, it's worth a look.

Meanwhile, after I have been given the green light to "Go For A Swim" (I know these words, they are part of my lexicon), I usually "slap" my waterlogged body down on the warm cement and indulge in some serious back scratchy. OOOoo.... does it feel good to be alive!

Hey, No peeking at my hoo-hoo....

Okay, so where was I? Ah yes, cactus mania. Most Excellant was so inspired by the visit to the Desert that she made "little Deserts" back at the home front, including lots of those totally unnecessary prickly things. (Honestly, why bother? She could be chasing bunnies.)

So here we are gardening. Thank God she has me around to supervise.

Okay, lots of technical difficulties, turning this blog into a 3 day affair...I'm so glad I'm a dog and that I don't really have to deal with all this stuff. Most Excellant gets VERY frustrated with her computer and frequently swears very loudly at it. She has even threatened to throw it into the pool. When I hear loud angry talk I ALWAYS think it's my fault, and I slink away and hide. I also don't like the "F" word. When I hear it, I always react with what the Humanoids refer to as "The Nervous Wag", aka a little shifty tail flutter. They usually come over and tell me it's okay, give me some scratchy, and then I know all is well.

I am a very sensitive girl.

So, let's try to wrap this up with some more photos. Here are the finished products:

< Not my cuppa tea, mind you but, whatever floats your boat. Besides it gives me more time to dream about....you guessed it, bunnies!

So, that's for now; I know you have all been on the edge of your seats awaiting my next
missive, so I will send this off ASAP!

Keeping it real,
Miss Lucille

Desert Hound

I am going to open my blog with a trip to the desert. Human Female likes flowers... so to the desert we go! Borrego Spring, CA, that is.
Here I am trying to get away from that big prickly thing over there. I don't know if it's alive or not, besides I think there might be a bunny in here.

Meanwhile, it's hot out here (85 degrees) -- thank God there's a pool! I looooove to swim.

But, I digress. We came for the flowers. yawn

While I sat, stuffed in the back of a hot car (albeit briefly), this is what the humans looked at:

Lastly, on the way home we saw these strange things:

The humans seemed to get very excited about these things... apparently they were "in the mood", which was quite a show!

Ahhhh, Spring.

Keepin' It Real,
Miss Lucille
